Las Vegas wasn’t the only spot that saw a Branquinho triumph

HAYWARD, Calif. - Although Casey Branquinho of Los Alamos, Calif., didn’t qualify for the Pace Picante ProRodeo Chute-out, that didn’t keep him from being the only Branquinho to record a victory last weekend.

On the same weekend Luke, his younger brother, was winning more than $20,000 in claiming the steer wrestling title at the Pace Chute-out, Casey was holding his own at the Rowell Ranch Rodeo in Hayward. Branquinho claimed the tie-down roping title, earning $1,217 after recording a time of 10.7 seconds.

Other champions in Hayward were Joe Ketter, Roy, Wash., bareback riding, 80 points on Flying U Rodeo’s No. 826, $1,001; Scott Miller, Waco, Texas, saddle bronc riding, 84 points on Flying U Rodeo’s No. 687, $1,105; Saul Sandate, Brentwood, Calif., bull riding, 82 points on Flying U Rodeo’s No. 8, $1,582; Rhett Kennedy, Chowchilla, Calif., steer wrestling, 6.1 seconds, $1,217; Bert McGill, Clovis, Calif./Joseph Shawnego, Oakdale, Calif., team roping, 6.5 seconds, $1,047 each; and Rachelle Maloney, Perris, Calif., barrel racing, 16.16 seconds, $925.
